First up on our trip, will be the shiny new stainless tanks at Geaghan Brothers Brewing Co’s new 20 barrel facility in Brewer. Geaghans has been setting the standard in our area for several years now in their Restaurant and Pub in Bangor, but this newly opened facility will allow their beer to reach beyond the Pub walls. Although brewing very clean, crisp and approachable beers is their mantra, they also know how to ramp it up in the specialty department. They have invited us in for a private tasting and tour of their beautiful facility with one of the brewery staff. We’ll even have time for a round or two of cornhole. The tour includes samples and of course there will be growlers and merchandise to purchase and take home with you.
Next we visit, Orono Brewing Company, one of the area’s newest and best. OBC is a custom built draught room in the bottom floor of a historic 1848 brick building. Exposed old brick and wooden beams, tables and benches made from giant reconditioned planks, and a bar hand-built from copper give a special ambiance to the tap room. See head brewer Asa Marsh-Sachs through the looking glass windows. Bring some vinyl, and they’ll put it on the old record player. Enjoy OBC’s delicious creations inside or outside on the sun-soaked deck. Homemade mac & cheese, soft pretzels and some killer flatbreads are available to cure the munchies. We include the samples and you’re invited to purchase growlers and merchandise to go.
Just across the way in Orono, in the center of downtown, sits a 10 barrel brewhouse. Owned and operated by Tim Gallon, Black Bear began operation in 2008 and in 2013 added a tap room where they serve pints, growlers and brick oven pizza by the slice. Black Bear brews a variety of beers and styles for the tap room and local pubs. In addition to their flagships Gearhead Red and Pail Ale there are several brews on tap including seasonal and one-off rotators for your enjoyment. We’ll be sure to give you a tour of Tim’s facility while you enjoy a sample or two. Live music, great conversation and a friendly atmosphere make Black Bear Brewery a favorite for beer lovers.
At the end of this local tour, we will drop you off at the back deck of Nocturnem Draft Haus, where you are invited to come in and share outstanding burgers and beer with your new found friends. Cheers!
